Chapters 4-6B

In United States history, John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon held a debate that played a huge role in determining their presidential race that many believe was impacted negatively by Nixon's speaking presence. What speaking skills should leaders possess? How can these skills be developed or enhanced? What degree of importance do they play in your vote this election year? Be specific as we debate issues vs. public speaking skills.

JFK's speeches were consider strives of what people tried to reach. His speeches asked not what your country can do for you ask what you can do for your country. With these specking skills people believed that he could run are country well, this is by knowing what your talking about and being confident about what you know. YES! because if he can't talk he can't do many other things to the best of his abilities most likely.

Leaders should be able to speak in front of large groups of people without getting nervous, and remaining calm. Leaders should be able to keep an open mind and let others share their opinions. These skills can be perfected by practice. This election year, speaking is a huge part of the election because the candidates are so close in the race. During debates public speakers need to remain calm, while public speakers need to maintain a voice that keeps peoples attention.

Know your topic and believe what you are saying, eye contact and emphize. Practice these skilles. Alot if they can connect with the people then they should be able to connect with the nation they are going to lead.

Leaders should be able to speak infront of large crowds without any problems, they shouldn't be nervous whatsoever. These skills can be developed by speech, speaking in front of large crowds regularly. If someone can't be willing to stick up for their beliefs then they aren't worthy enough for the presidency. They should be used to speaking in front of crowds and know what they want to say before they get their. It is very important that they work their hardest to get votes. If they don't it shows me that they really don't want that possition.

What speaking skills should leaders possess:
A loud and clear voice, have things in common with the audience, and keep a calm and steady appearance.

How can these skills be developed:
Practice speaking in front of people who aren't critics, practice 'pose' and try to put your self in a group with your audience.

What degree of importance do they play in your vote this election year:
Well, the three final candidates are all good speakers this year so it isn't influencing me as much this year. When all of the candidates are good speakers it seems like there is less importance on the matter. However if one of them wasn't a good speaker it would be obvious.

People will always follow someone who has enough confidence in themselves to speak in front of people. A good speaker cannot be afraid to get up in front of a large crowd.

The only way i can think of to develop these skills is to practice, get up in front of people, at first small groups and then work your way up as you get more comfortable.
But then there are the people who are natural speakers and didn't ever need practice or help at all.

For me it doesn't play that much of a role for me because all three of the front runners are great speakers, otherwise they wouldn't have made it this far. I'm more worried about their platforms instead of how they speak.

A leader has to be a powerful communicator and that is a charming and convincing speaker. He must be persuasive enough to convince members. To be able to gain trust, the leader must speak well and justify the management’s strategies and actions.
Understand the purpose of the of what your speaking about and be prepared. Also practice makes perfect. Maybe to make yourself better watch other professionals make their speeches and take notes. I think that having good speaking skills plays a very important role in the elections because the race is so close so they need to convince people they should vote for them.

A leader needs to be very convincing when speaking. Because he wants his listeners to sit there and say I truely believe what he or she is saying. He can do this by having good grammar and believing what he or she is speaking about. They can perfect these abilities by practicing and looking over their speech before giving it.

I think you need to have good speaking skills to catch peoples attention so they listen to you. I also believe they need to truely believe what they are saying, because they come across as more convincing.

A leader need to have somewhat good speaking skills. He should be able to stand in front of a crowd of people with cameras and express his ideas, thoughts, intelligence, and even feelings. Having good grammer is not as important as saying what you mean and saying it correctly. It is up to the audience what they want to believe but you need to know how to be persuasive also.

They can be enhanced just by believing what you are talking about, just like what jhelmuth wrote. I don't know if speaking skills are going to be what determines my vote this year. I will probably base it off of who tells the truth and who is covering up the truth. I will also base it off of who sounds most convincing to stick to their ideals and motives.

A leader needs to have confidence in themselves and what they are saying. He must be able to have the trust of the followers and keep the trust.

Speaking skills are very important in the election. You have to know what you are saying so it makes sense and you do not loose anyone when you are speaking.

You also need to stand still and be very presentable. If you are constantly moving and not making eye contact with audience then they are more likely to not pay attention.

When I think of a leader, I think of a person who follow their words and are doing what they believe is right. Also they are trying to get people to follow them.

When I think of debate issues and when they speak of them, most the time it is a lie or they are trying to impress the biggest group they are directing their speach to. I think that they will say what ever they need to say to be voted in by the people.

For public speaking skills they should be able to relate to the audience and show them that they really care and what them to be there listening to them. They are going to talk about something that interest the group.

For debate issues they are defending themselves and what they beleive is right and how they would do things if they were president. This is going to have a huge impact on the election this year.

For a leader to really bring people together, and win their vote, there are many things they must do as a speaker. First, they must be fluent with their words.Nobody wants to listen to a choppy speaker. Second, a leader must be clever, but not too clever with what he says. You don't want to seem like you think your smarter than everybody else, but you don't want to seem stupid either. Third, you must be motivating. People swarm around motivated people who motivate others. Motivation brings people together, and gets them going.
Developing these skills can be a lifelong process. Things like speech class, and just getting out of your "box" are good things that will enhance your speech skills. Really, these skills don't play a roll in who I am voting for this year. I am voting Republican, and John McCain is the only clear front runner.

Being able to speak is extremely important when it comes to being a leader. You must be able to connect with your listeners. When choosing a leader most would look for somone with simular values and beliefs as them. Thats why a good speaker will talk in a style that the majority of people can relate to. Yes, it does make a huge difference. You wouldn't elect a person to run your country that can't even connect with the citizens of that country. If they can't speak to the public most likely they won't be able to listen to the public.
