Animal Farm Characters and Historical People

Each of you was assigned a character/animal from the novel, and that person correlates to a historical person. Please post a picture of your animal and your historical person with a brief summary of the historical person. (Please follow the directions Mrs. Moninger gave in class.)

- old wise donkey who is suspicious of revolution
- thinks "nothing every changes"
- his suspicions are true, about Boxer & sign changes

Skeptical people in Russia &outside Russia
- weren't sure revolution would change anything
-realized that a crazy leader can call himself communist
-knew that communism wouldn't work with power

Squealer


1. Propaganda is usually truthful but influence your opinion.
2. A message to produce emotion rather than rational responses to the information.
3. Squealer abuses language to justify Napolean’s actions and policies.
4. Example: he teaches the sheep to bleat “Four legs good, two legs better!”
5. He also employs jargon.
6. He baffles his vocabulary.
7. Squeal can mean to betray.
8. He usually squeals so that is how he got his name.
9. He thinks that the other animals can’t do things without him.
10. Because of his actions and what he does he is the perfect propagandist.

Muriel- The white goat who reads the Seven commandments to clover whenever Clover suspects the pigs of violating their prohibitions. She is a character who knows that something is going on, on the farm, but doesn’t like to say anything about it. She is very smart, but keeps to herself.

3)Jessie and Bluebell are the mothers of the pups' which serve as Napolean's body guards.
4)Jessie and Bluebell also participate in the Battle of the "Windmill".

Established concentration camps for his enemies and Jews
His "reich" lasted 12 years
Known as "der Fuhrer" or "The Leader"

Hitler was probably addicted to meth, according to wikipedia
Hitler was a non-smoker, and promoted anti-smoking campaigns

Napoleon-
He is a pig that is a chief villian of the story. He works alongside the other pig snowball to take control of the farm but once that happened he chased snowball away so he could be the leader. He becomes power hungry and evil and has animals killed because he thought that they were plotting against him or conspiring with snowball. http://www.haderslev-katedralskole.dk/kf/napoleon.gif

Joseph Stalin-

He represents construction workers. (Not only construction workers, but anyone that works hard at a manual labor job. It's like in road work or construction where there is one guy working and five standing around watching. Boxer would be the one working. DM)

Boxer is a horse that does all the real work. Construction workers is where one works and all of the others watch him work. He would be the one who works all the time.

Short Biography of Leon Trotsky:
Founder of the Red Army in the Soviet Union. He resisted Stalin in the 1920s by leading the Left Opposition. He was Second, only to Lenin, during the Russian October Revolution.He was deported from the Soviet Union, but still resisted Stalin. He was expelled from the Communist party. After being deported, he was assassinated in Mexico by Ramon Mercader(a Soviet Agent). Trotsky obtained many ideas from Marxism which was derived from Karl Marx studies.

Why:
She represents the Orthodox Church because she is always talking about the seven commandments and is always forgetting but she tries anyways. She is also a very loving and compassionate character who is well-respected.

Mollie - The vain, flighty mare who pulls Mr. Jones’s carriage. Mollie craves the attention of human beings and loves being groomed and pampered. She has a difficult time with her new life on Animal Farm, as she misses wearing ribbons in her mane and eating sugar cubes. She represents the petit bourgeoisie that fled from Russia a few years after the Russian Revolution.

Mr. Jones is a drunk farmer who runs the Manor Farm. Mr. Jones is an unkind master who indulges himself while his animals lack food. Mr. Jones represents Tsar Nicholas II, who especially during World War II was despised for his harsh rule which resulted in many of the peasants and lower class starving.

Sheep / Working Class Laborers

The sheep are similar to Boxer and Clover. They represent the working class of unskilled laborers. They depend on their backs, not their brains, to do work. They fall into the bottom of society and are the focal point of politicians brain-washing.
